Things you shouldn’t do with vSAN …

This is a list I will continue to update, through the years of using vSAN I’ve found many “Gotchas” that you should be careful to avoid.

  • Don’t change an active host’s name in a vSAN cluster!
    • This causes vCenter to continue to search for the original host’s name in the cluster and causes several errors which can require rebuilding vCenter to resolve.
  • Don’t modify network settings for kernel ports on active hosts.
    • Similar to changing a name, this can cause a rash of errors and host issues in a vSAN cluster.
